Tree Removal
Ursa Minor is not a removal company...
...we are a tree care company. That being said, we do recognize there is a need for tree removals in certain situations, and this is a service we offer.
We limit our tree removals to the following criteria:
- Trees that are hazardous - this means that a tree has structural issues or is in decline and will cause damage to a structure in the event of failure. Just because a tree is growing over a roof does not mean it’s a hazardous tree. We are willing to take several mitigation steps to keep trees safe in small spaces, including cable installations and end weight reduction pruning (Johanna's limb walk game is strong!)
- Trees that aren’t sustainable and require annual chemical or mechanical input to stay alive. Think spruce/pine that would require fungicide sprays every year, or trees that would require extensive annual pruning to not outgrow their space.
- Trees that are invasive, such as buckthorn or callery pear.
- Trees that are dead or clearly dying.
We are committed to keeping healthy trees standing. This means that we are not the company to call if you have a tree that you just don’t like, that might get too big, or that is keeping the grass from growing or is dropping leaves/sticks/seeds in your yard or gutters.
Our summers are getting hotter, and climate change is a very real concern. When talking about doing our part, it might not be apparent just how important keeping trees alive is - far more important than bringing reusable bags to the grocery store or using organic cleaning products. The pivotal role that a mature tree plays in the urban canopy and the potential benefit of cooling your home far outweighs the yard work involved.
We can offer alternatives to growing grass. We can do an aerial inspection to assess the overall condition of the tree if safety is a concern. We can do canopy thinning to reduce some of the debris. We can prune a tree to help it work in a small space. But for us, something we can’t do is take down a healthy tree for a reason other than what I’ve listed.
