Tree Care has historically been a male-dominated trade. Although the industry has made attempts to be more welcoming to woman in the past decade, most people still tend to express surprise (or worse) at the sight of a female climber or equipment operator. In general, female arborists are met with support and encouragement, but work remains to be done in terms of acceptance of woman as equal participants in this line of work.
Ursa Minor began as the first woman owned and operated tree care company in the Milwaukee area. While it may not be uncommon for a woman to own a tree care business with her male partner, most females function in administrative roles. Few do production, and fewer still do both. Ursa Minor is proud to be a pioneer in this area. It's our hope that one day, the sight of a skilled woman climbing a tree with a chainsaw won't be a cause for a second glance.
